Kangaroo Island Post-fire Wildlife Recovery Workshop

Mon, 27 Jul 2020

About half of Kangaroo Island was burnt in the January 2020 bushfires. A milestone three-day wildlife recovery workshop was held in late February to inform the island’s wildlife recovery planning, including key threats and recovery actions for threatened species like the Kangaroo Island dunnart and glossy black-cockatoo.

The workshop brought together 80 wildlife experts such as leading threatened species ecologists, experts from the island, conservation groups, members of the local community and representatives of the Australian and South Australian governments.

The collaboration between the scientific community, government managers and KI locals to address the challenges facing wildlife recovery will benefit the long-term recovery of the remarkable native wildlife that call Kangaroo Island home
