The extent and adequacy of monitoring for Australian threatened plant species

Without adequate monitoring threatened species could slip to extinction without anyone noticing or having sufficient time to act. We examined whether, and how well, over 800 threatened plants on the Australian Government’s threatened species list are being monitored. We found that only 37% of threatened plants are monitored, half the rate for threatened vertebrate animals.
