Cats are the second most popular pet in Australia. Collectively, pet cats kill around 300 million animals in Australia every year, the majority being native species. This factsheet explains how these impacts can be reduced by practicing responsible cat ownership.

This factsheet was developed with the assistance of the Australian Veterinary Association’s special interest groups, the Australian Veterinary Conservation Biology Group (AVCB) and Australian Small Animal Veterinarians (ASAV).
