Butterflies on the brink: identifying the Australian butterflies most at risk of extinction

Invertebrates are declining globally in both diversity and abundance, with potentially serious consequences for ecosystem functioning. Many Australian butterflies are imperilled or declining but few are listed for protection by legislation. We identified the 26 Australian butterflies at most immediate risk of extinction within a 20-year time frame.
