In Australia, many freshwater fish species have declined sharply since the 1950s. Preventing extinctions will require identifying the species most at risk. We used structured expert elicitation and other available published and unpublished data to identify the freshwater fishes at greatest risk of extinction, and to estimate the likelihood of extinction within ~20 years if there is no change to current management.
